When the Equipment Matters, So Should the Crate

If you’ve ever had machinery arrive damaged—or worse, delayed at customs—you already know how important good packaging is. For everyone else, it’s one of those things that doesn’t get much attention until something goes wrong.

At Pallet Pro, we work with companies that ship heavy-duty equipment, sensitive machinery, and high-value goods. These aren’t shipments you can just toss on a standard pallet and hope for the best. You need the right support. Literally.

Here’s what we’ve seen—and why it matters.

Crates and Pallets: More Than “Just Packaging”

Technically, yes, crates and pallets are packaging. But when you’re moving thousands of pounds of equipment across the country—or across oceans—they become part of your risk management plan.

Let’s say you’re shipping a large machine overseas. Between warehouse handling, forklifts, port transfers, sea air, and storage, it’s going to get knocked around a bit. The right crate setup can:

  • Protect against moisture, dust, vibration, and impact

  • Make forklift handling safer and more efficient

  • Keep your shipment compliant with ISPM-15 (so it doesn’t get stuck at customs)

  • Help avoid costly damage or downtime upon arrival

And when paired with the right pallet—built to handle your weight, spacing, and equipment design—it all works together to get your shipment there in one piece.

Planning Ahead Makes a Big Difference

Lately, we’ve seen more companies taking a closer look at their packaging, especially with rising costs in lumber and transportation. A little planning upfront can go a long way in avoiding bigger issues down the line.

Here are a few smart questions to consider:

  • Do you have storage space? If yes, ordering ahead may help you avoid price increases. If not, we can talk about drop trailers or staggered deliveries.

  • Could recycled or combo pallets work for you? Many industrial shipments can use them with no issues—and they can reduce your costs.

Have you checked in with engineering or procurement? Small adjustments in size, board thickness, or pallet style might make a big impact.

Let’s Talk About It

If something's not working—or if you’re just not sure what your next move should be—let’s have a conversation. Whether you’re shipping one crate or setting up a long-term program, we’re here to help you get what you need, without the runaround.
